The Liberty Party (HP) is founded
Founded on December 20, 1955 and dissolved in 1958, the Liberty Party (HP) was created by a handful of deputies who did not appreciate the course the Democrat Party had taken. At the time of its formation, the party was comprised of 28 members that had all resigned from DP. Fevzi Lütfi Karaosmanoğlu, Turan Güneş, İbrahim Öktem, Cihat Baban, Fethi Çelikbaş, Ekrem Alican, Raif Aybar, Enver Güreli, Kasım Küfrevi, Ekrem Hayri Üstündağ, and Ziyad Ebüzziya were among the politicians that left DP and reunited at HP.
Liberty Party dissolved itself in 1958, as it could not show presence in the Grand National Assembly with a satisfactory number of deputies during the 1957 elections. The majority of the party’s cofounders later joined CHP.
