İnönü at the Second Army Headquarters in Edirne

Mustafa İsmet began his post at the Second Army Headquarters on October 2, 1906; his duty station was the 8th Field Artillery Regiment of the 3rd Battery Commandership. Having completed his staff internship here, Mustafa İsmet not only learned to become a troop officer, but he also taught strategy and artillery at the Artillery Division.

Also serving in the Otto-Bulgarian Commissions, Captain İsmet joined the Committee of Union and Progress in 1907 through the help Ali Fethi Bey (Okyar). Mustafa İsmet was now the member of a secret society. The goal was to overthrow the despotic sultan, proclaim constitutional monarchy, and to save the nation.

İsmet İnönü’s real political actually began as of this point.
