The railway reaches Erzurum

On the occasion of the opening of the Erzurum railway line on October 23, 1939, Minister of Public Works Ali Fuat Cebesoy sent the following message to President İsmet İnönü:

As the most recent demonstration of your will to create an iron web across our nation, we are thrilled to officially open the Sivas-Erzurum railway along with the esteemed representatives of government and private corporations and dear children.

Always stepping forward in the path of our Eternal Leader Atatürk, our country is now connected from north to south and from east to west by railways. This achievement is yet another way for the great Turkish nation to pledge unconditional allegiance to and trust in you and the Republic government…

İsmet İnönü’s congratulatory reply read as follows:

As I congratulate you on behalf of the government of the Republic, I am happy to express our gratitude to the Turkish nation, which earns the highest praises in the completion of this magnificent work… I sincerely believe that the nation will earn many other valuable public works during your ministry.
