İnönü visits the military units in İstanbul
In 1962, Prime Minister İnönü continued to test the waters at various headquarters and commanderships to appease increasing rumors about a pending coup d’état prior to February 22nd and warned potential proponents in a suitable language. It is important to note that First Army Commander Cemal Tural was with him during the visit he paid to the Northern Sea Area Command on January 31, 1962.
Ascribed alleged political designs during his commandership, Tural was appointed as a member of the Supreme Military Council on March 16, 1969 after having served as Chief of the General Staff. Tural, who held this post until August 16th of the same year, relinquished this position to Memduh Ta?maç, a cosigner of the March 12, 1971 memorandum despite his well-known closeness with Cevdet Sunay.
