İnönü meets with Cevdet Sunay

Opposition leader İnönü and President Cevdet Sunay met at the Çankaya Palace to discuss precautions to be taken against the ongoing incidents. During the meeting that lasted two hours and ten minutes, President Sunay presented the overall condition of the country and asked the CHP leader for his support in swiftly passing through the parliament the precautionary measures the Justice Party (AP) government would propose.

Arguing that the real measures had to be taken outside the few legal actions the Grand National Assembly would sanction, İsmet İnönü, on the other hand, replied that he would not lend his support to save the AP from this predicament.

Nation Party (MP) leader Osman Bölükbaba, on the other hand, regarded Cevdet Sunay’s search for support from other leaders as a move against the neutrality of the presidency.
